Scrub, Scrub, Examine, and Scrub Some More!

Various things came and went through my mind as I realized just how much dust can settle on a wall after ten years.  (Not to make it sound that we live in a filthy house!  But you’d be surprised how much can stick behind a shelf or picture frame)

The thought process that involves this post though went something like this:  It’s amazing what you don’t realize is on your wall because you never look.  Ugh!  How did a black skid mark get ABOVE the door?”  *shakes head in wonderment, knowing she will never get the answer to that question and attacks the mark vigorously with a Magic Marker thingy*  “How long has it been there?”

*For some reason randomly thinks of Bible verse*

Lamentations 3:40
Let us search out and examine our ways, And turn back to the LORD;
I wonder what “dust” settles in our spiritual life without realizing it.  What sins do we do without realizing it?  What thoughts, attitudes, and actions have settled imperceptibly in our lives that we shouldn’t be thinking, feeling or doing?  These things aren’t pleasing to God, could stumble weaker believers, and hinder our growth.  So we need to follow what this verse says and examine our lives and work to bring them closer to where they should be.  Because it’s our duty and privilege to make sure we’re always walking the straight and narrow in every aspect of our life.

So grab your sponge, scrub brush, or what have you, and search for the specks in your life!  It might be painful, but it’s worth it.
